PHOENIX (AZFamily) — President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind a second candidate for Arizona governor in next year’s election.

In a Truth Social post, he endorsed Rep. Andy Biggs’ bid for governor. This comes just months after he endorsed billionaire developer Karrin Taylor Robson. “Two fantastic candidates, two terrific people, two wonderful champions, and it is therefore my Great Honor TO GIVE MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT TO BOTH,” Trump said in his social media post.

Biggs took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank President Trump. “It’s been an honor to support you and fight for your agenda since 2016,” he posted. “I look forward to fighting along side you as Governor of Arizona, the greatest state in the nation!”

Biggs is a fifth-term Congressman, representing Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District, which covers parts of the East Valley. He was one of the eight House Republicans who helped oust Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker in 2023. Biggs announced he was running for governor in January.

He has been one of Trump’s staunchest defenders in Congress and a conservative crusader unafraid to buck GOP leadership, though his prior record as president of the Arizona Senate was more pragmatic.

Biggs has deep ties to the Republican Party’s right flank. In addition to chairing the House Freedom Caucus for a time, he was investigated by the Jan. 6 committee over concerns about his involvement in the effort to overturn Trump’s 2020 election loss.

Robson ran for governor in 2022, but despite having the backing of former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Robson lost the GOP primary to Kari Lake, a staunch supporter of Trump who had his endorsement and repeatedly peddled the lie that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen. Robson kept Trump at arm’s length and didn’t want to be labeled as a Trump person.

But this time around, she has embraced Trump and his popularity. During an interview in February after she announced she’s running for governor, she made several references to Trump endorsing her, based on a statement President Trump made during a Phoenix event in December, when he said if Robson ran for governor, she’d have his support.

Hobbs, who narrowly defeated Lake in 2022 and plans to run for reelection in 2026, has faced stiff resistance from the Republican-led Legislature in trying to enact her agenda, including reining in Arizona’s school voucher program.
