Border Patrol agent arrested on child porn charges in Gilbert
GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent who lives in the East Valley is accused of downloading and sharing child pornography, according to newly obtained court documents.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that a CBP agent was arrested for related charges last week but did not specifically reveal the agent’s name. Court records identified him as 40-year-old Jason Michael Drown.
Court documents say Homeland Security Investigations, along with Gilbert Police, conducted an operation in November aimed at combatting child sexual exploitation. On Nov. 2, federal authorities used peer-to-peer software to download potential illegal images and identify the devices sharing them. According to investigators, one of those torrent files was downloaded from a device linked to Drown’s home.
At the time of his arrest on April 8, a Dell desktop computer was seized, and in a post-Miranda interview, he denied sharing child porn. When asked about such images on his desktop, he allegedly responded, “okay?” and asked for an attorney. Several other of his devices are still awaiting forensic analysis.
Drown was booked into the Maricopa County jail on 10 felony charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was held on a $150,000 bond.
CBP officials sent a statement to Arizona’s Family confirming the case is under review by the department’s Office of Professional Responsibility as the criminal investigation remains underway.
“CBP stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission, and the overwhelming majority of CBP employees and officers perform their duties with honor and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe,” the department wrote in part. “An arrest is merely an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
