Arizona headed for big warm-up on Mother’s Day weekend
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A big warm-up begins today across Arizona, with temperatures peaking this weekend for two First Alert Weather Days.
A storm system that’s been lingering over Arizona since late last week finally exits the state today, and temperatures begin a rapid warm-up. In the Valley, look for sunshine and a high of 96 degrees. That’s four degrees warmer than normal for this time of year in Phoenix.
The Valley is also under a High Pollution Advisory for ozone today. High levels of ozone can make it tough to breathe, especially for children, the elderly and people with asthma.
Low pressure is now centered over southeastern Arizona and moving east. While a few isolated showers are possible in far eastern Arizona, most of the rest of the day will be dry and significantly warmer than the past few days. As low pressure exits the region, strong high pressure will build in in its wake.
Look for a return to triple digits starting tomorrow and lasting through Monday in the Valley. Temperatures will climb to about 104 degrees on Saturday and 106 degrees on Sunday. Both days will be First Alert Weather Days with moderate heat risk.
Early next week, an area of low pressure is forecast to moving into the southwest from the northwest, bringing cooler and breezy conditions statewide. In the Valley, that means a high of about 90 degrees by next Tuesday and upper 80s likely for Wednesday.
