PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you have been paying attention to the forecast, you know the temperature will change significantly this weekend.

There could be a decrease of around 15 degrees between the Saturday and Sunday high temperatures! How does this compare to other big dips in temperature so far this year?

This March and April have featured a few significant day-to-day temperature dips. The biggest drop this year occurred from March 13 to March 14, when the high temperature plummeted from 75 to 58 degrees, a 17-degree decrease. This March and April also had two instances when the high temperature dropped 13 degrees from one day to the next.

What is the biggest day-to-day temperature free fall in Phoenix since the start of 2024? I crunched the numbers and found a 22-degree temperature descent from March 30, 2024, to March 31, 2024!

This made me think about dramatic temperature changes occurring over a shorter period. For example, what is a notable one-hour temperature drop in Phoenix? A fascinating example comes from the damaging thunderstorms on August 28, 2008.

These were the storms that ripped up the ASU practice football field. The storms cooled things off rapidly that night. In fact, the Phoenix temperature dropped from 90 degrees at 9 p.m. to 64 degrees at 10 p.m. That is a 26-degree drop in one hour!

While we don’t know the exact temperature drop this weekend, it’s safe to say that you will feel quite a difference between Saturday and Sunday afternoon. These changes may also come with some wind, so please keep checking back for updates to plan accordingly this weekend.
