PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you are out and about this Saturday night, you might get a nice view of the Pink Moon!

The Pink Moon gets its name because it is the first full moon of spring, and spring is a season of blooming bright colors for much of the Northern Hemisphere.

This Pink Moon will also be a micromoon, which occurs during a full moon that is at a very far distance from the Earth. Technically, this makes the moon look smaller from Earth, but the naked eye won’t be able to tell the difference.

This will be the second of three micromoons this year, and this upcoming micromoon will be the longest distance between the Earth and a full moon all year.

When can you see the Pink Moon this weekend?

The moon will rise on the eastern horizon this Saturday at 6:59 p.m. Phoenix time. Under ideal conditions, this would make Saturday night a great time to see the Pink Moon; however, weather could make things less than ideal. A trough of low pressure will be moving through this weekend, and this could throw some clouds our way Saturday night.

If Saturday night is too cloudy, Sunday evening might offer better views. While the moon will be just past full stage, it should still provide some good views if the clouds are not in the way.

It’s too early to say exactly when and where these clouds will be moving in. Therefore, please check back in with the First Alert forecast as we get more specifics on the sky cover forecast!
