PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you like these cooler temperatures, enjoy them while they last because changes are coming!

From Tuesday, April 8, through Saturday, April 12, the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is predicting above-normal temperatures with a great deal of confidence.

The CPC is predicting especially toasty weather in northwest Arizona, as shown by the darker red area in the map below.

Typically, temperatures can be predicted with more certainty than precipitation, so it’s not that uncommon to see a fairly confident temperature forecast. However, this forecast is especially confident with most of Arizona covered in an “80% to 90% chance of above normal temperatures” from the middle to the end of next week.

This is backed up by many of the computer models and our own First Alert seven-day forecast.

But what exactly is normal this time of year?

The end of next week takes us almost halfway through April, so we will use April’s average monthly temperature as a guide. In the graph below, the red line shows the average high temperatures in Phoenix. Notice that the highs are normally in the mid-80s for the month of April.

If the normal high temperature is around 85 degrees, and there is high confidence of above normal temperatures, you can assume the 90s are a good bet. It’s also possible that temperatures rise to the upper 90s by the end of next week.

While the 90s might not be considered a big deal around here in the summer, they can be a big deal if people are not expecting warm weather like this in mid-April.

It’s important to make sure to stay hydrated and keep an eye on the weather, especially if you have a hike planned during this time. The mornings may be the best time for a hike during the middle to the late part of next week.
