Phoenix-area roofing companies flooded with calls after winter storm
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix metro area was hit with several storms this week, and that’s kept roofing companies extremely busy. “The phone has been off the hook,” said Eddie Cortez with Lyons Roofing. “People calling in and realizing we haven’t had rain, but since it started raining, now they notice they have a lot of leaks.”
One of the challenges homeowners have is choosing the right roofing company to come out and do the work they need, especially when they need it right away. Arizona’s Family did some research to find five of the lowest-rated and five of the highest-rated roofing contractors, according to the Arizona Better Business Bureau.
The companies with an F-rating include:
- 20th Century Roofing.
- Foresight Roofing
- A Ability Roofing
- Expert Contracting
- Thinker Development Inc.
The companies with an A-plus rating include:
- Lyons Roofing
- The Roof Works
- Hays Roofing.
- Gomez Roofing Services
- Diversified Roofing
Jordan Rueschhoff with Diversified Roofing says homeowners have to do their homework before hiring a roofer.
“Take the time to do a little research. Google is everybody’s best friend so you can see reviews,” said Rueschhoff. “When selecting a contractor, make sure they are licensed and insured, and make sure they have done work before and have references to call.”
The Arizona Registrar of Contractors has this advice for consumers:
- Ensure you understand the scope of the project and what is entailed.
- Get estimates from at least three licensed contractors.
- Check the license at www.roc.az.gov using the free contractor search and make sure it is in good standing on the day you sign the contract.
- Don’t let a door-to-door solicitor talk you into taking action without doing your research.
- Don’t pay in cash or sign over an insurance check. Only make checks payable to the name of the company or individual listed in your signed contract.
When getting estimates or choosing a contractor for a project, always ask if the contractor is licensed and check the license number using the contractor search at www.roc.az.gov or by giving the Agency a call at 1-877-9762 (1-877-MY-AZROC).
