Look to the stars! Geminid meteor shower visible in Arizona this weekend
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s beginning to look a lot like the Geminid meteor shower is coming! The shower will likely peak late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
What’s the best way to view the Geminids? As always, try to get away from any surrounding lights. Rural settings are typically better than city settings.
This year, the view will likely be a bit washed out because it is near the time of a full moon.
If possible, try to look away from the moon while you are taking in the Geminids.

What produces the Geminid meteor shower? The source actually comes from an asteroid named 3200 Phaethon which takes about 1.4 years to orbit the sun. The earth’s atmosphere interacts with a debris trail from Phaethon around this time of year which produces the Geminid meteor shower.
What’s a meteor shower without a viewing party? On Friday night, there will be a watch party in Fountain Hills.
If you are planning to go, make sure you bring an extra layer or two as temperatures will fall into the 50s and then 40s Friday night.
