PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Nov. 22 is a big day in Arizona weather history. On this date in 2013, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport recorded a drenching 1.60 inches of rainfall!

Not only did that break the daily record, but it’s also the second-highest rainfall total on record in Phoenix for any day in November.

There is even a bit more to pour onto this discussion. That rain-soaked day in 2013 was also in the middle of a multi-day storm that soaked parts of Arizona including the Valley.

From Nov. 21-23, 2013, Sky Harbor recorded 2.42 inches of rainfall!

It’s fairly unusual to get a consecutive stretch of rainy days in the Phoenix area. In fact, this is the second wettest three-day stretch in the history of November records.

The long duration of this storm likely helped the Valley avoid widespread, serious flooding. NOAA points out that there was some low-lying flooding in the typically prone areas. However, had the same amount of rain fallen in just a few hours, the flooding would likely have been much worse.
