2 women struck by lightning in northern Arizona

PAGE, AZ (AZFamily) — Two young women are hospitalized after they were struck by lightning as severe weather moved through northern Arizona on Monday.

Just before 4 p.m., 911 callers reported that two people had been struck by lightning near the Horseshoe Bend Overlook in Page. Police say several people were at the park when a severe storm hit the area.

Page firefighters responded and began providing aid to the women while Page police officers and National Park Service rangers worked to evacuate the area so two medical helicopters could land.

The women were then airlifted to a Utah hospital, where their current conditions are unknown. No other injuries were reported.

According to a social media post from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the women are 22 and 23 years old. One is visiting from the Netherlands, while the other is from Australia.
