Strong storms move through Phoenix area, knock out power for thousands overnight
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Thousands were without power around the Valley as severe thunderstorms moved across Arizona on Sunday.
Around 8:30 p.m., approximately 3,789 SRP customers and 3,017 APS customers were without electricity in the Phoenix area from Mesa to Wickenburg.
But as of 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, SRP’s outage map showed the number was down to just about 200 customers, and APS’s map showed under 100 customers without power.
Earlier in the afternoon, a dust storm warning was in effect for parts of the Phoenix area as strong storms continued to move through Arizona and into the Valley.
A ground stop was in effect for some arriving flights at Sky Harbor early Sunday afternoon, but has since been canceled.

Regarding temperatures, highs across the Valley are slightly cooler than yesterday. We’re tracking a high of 109 degrees on Monday and 110 degrees on Tuesday.
This is above average, as the expected high temperature for this date is 106 degrees. Thunderstorm chances continue each afternoon in Phoenix around 20-30% as we head into the work week, with better chances remaining in northern and eastern Arizona, in the higher terrain.
