PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s been a record-dry start to winter for much of Arizona’s High Country.

Winter precipitation is calculated by combining rainfall with melted snow, as well as melted sleet, hail, and graupel. Below, you can see Flagstaff is sitting at number one for the driest on record from Dec. 1, 2024 (when “Meteorological Winter” begins) through Jan. 15, 2025.

Other High Country locations topping the ranks for the driest start to winter on record include Show Low, Winslow, Window Rock, and Prescott.

If the lack of moisture is setting records, then the lack of snowfall probably is, too. Flagstaff is tied for the least snowy start to winter on record.

There is a chance of a few rain and snow showers Thursday evening into Friday. This might not add up to much, but we will take what we can get!
