Falafel not cooled properly, shrimp out of temperature found at Phoenix-area restaurants

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for April 23, 2025:

Sushi Brokers - 50 W. Vaughn Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85234

3 violations:

• No food protection manager on duty
• No soap at hand wash sink
• Raw calamari and raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods

Cava - 14601 N Scottsdale Rd Suite 107, Scottsdale, AZ 85254

3 violations:

• Dishwasher not cleaning properly
• Falafel not cooling properly
• Mixed vegetables out of temperature

Teharu Sushi - 6638 E Superstition Springs Blvd #101, Mesa, AZ 85206

3 violations:

• Sushi maker with rice debris left inside
• Tempura shrimp on prep table out of temperature
• Ice scoop stored directly in ice maker

The Country Club at DC Ranch - 9290 E Thompson Peak Pkwy UNIT 1, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

3 violations:

• Employee handled raw fish with gloves, then utensils without washing up
• Potatoes and rice not held at proper temperature
• Dishwasher not cleaning properly

Steadfast Diner - 5149 Inspirian Pkwy, Mesa, AZ 85212

4 violations:

• Cook handling raw chicken then didn’t wash hands
• No paper towels at hand wash sink
• Pans of raw chicken on pans of cooked rice
• Honey hot sauce and Tahini sauce kept past discard dates
