Expired cooked meats, employees not washing up uncovered at Phoenix area eateries

A Cave Creek BBQ restaurant and a Phoenix sports grill were among restaurants who made this week's Dirty Dining list.

PHOENIX (AZFamily)Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for March 12, 2025:

Koi Sushi and Wok - 4205 W Anthem Way #109, Anthem

3 violations

  • Raw chicken stored above buckets of soy sauce
  • Rice not kept hot enough
  • Cooked octopus in a bread ball not kept at the proper temperature

Subway - 550 W Baseline Rd Suite A-103, Mesa

3 violations

  • No certified food manager on duty
  • Meatballs not kept hot enough
  • Tuna, ham and turkey not kept cold enough

Point 22 Restaurant and Tavern - 9248 E Cadence Pkwy Suite 101, Mesa

3 violations

  • Employee touched raw chicken wearing his gloves then changed gloves, but didn’t wash his hands
  • Hand-wash sink used to rinse rags
  • Dishwasher not using the proper amount of sanitizer

Hansen’s Cowboy BBQ - 6245 E Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek

4 violations

  • Green cabbage turning purple
  • White organic matter on the outside of a drink container
  • Eggs stored above shredded cheese
  • Cooked tri-tip and pork butt kept past their discard dates

Philly’s Sports Grill - 4855 E Warner Rd, Phoenix

5 violations

  • Employee handled dirty dishes then clean dishes without washing up
  • Raw bacon-wrapped hot dogs stored above chicken wings
  • Spicy queso and soup not cooling properly
  • Chicken stock kept past its discard date
  • Cooler not keeping food cold enough
