Marijuana in kitchen and fruit flies among violations at Phoenix-area restaurants

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for February 5, 2025:

Pigtails - 1 E Washington St #128, Phoenix

3 violations

• Several tomatoes with fuzzy organic material
• Raw chicken and raw beef stored above ready-to-eat oysters
• Ham and coleslaw kept past discard dates

Charleys Philly Steaks - 1955 S Stapley Dr, Mesa

3 violations

• No certified manager on duty
• Staff taking cash then handling food without washing hands
• Toxic chemicals not labeled

Charge N Go - 6262 E Main St, Mesa

3 violations

• Dozens of fruit flies throughout establishment
• No thermometer to check food temperature
• Raid ant and roach spray by ice machine

99 Ranch Market - 1920 W Chandler Blvd, Chandler

3 violations

• Raw duck stored above raw beef
• Bok choy and cabbage out of temperature
• Six containers of pork not served within proper time frame

Ollie Vaughn’s Kitchen and Bakery - 1526 E McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85006

4 violations

• Dishwasher not cleaning properly
• Butter on prep table not cold enough
• Plumbing to a sink not connected properly
• Used roll of marijuana and lighter on top of box of Tabasco sauce
