Expired raw fish heads, ethanol above to-go containers found at Phoenix-area eateries

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for Oct. 23, 2024:

Clarendale - 5900 S Gilbert Road, Chandler

3 violations

• Employee scratched face, adjusted hair, then grabbed clean plates
• Eggs stored over bread
• Ham and polish sausage kept past discard date

Sbarro - Arizona Mills Mall, 5000 S Arizona Mills Circle, Tempe

3 violations

• Employee handled cash then food without washing hands
• Raw eggs over vegetables
• Chemical bottles stored above clean dishes

Kung Fu Kitchen - 1250 E Apache Blvd, Tempe

• No certified food manager on duty
• Raw eggs above shredded potatoes
• Can of ethanol above to-go containers

The Sicilian Butcher - 3151 W Frye Rd, Chandler

3 violations

• Dishwasher not cleaning correctly
• Bolognese sauce not kept hot enough
• Melon and cooked meats not at proper temperature

Matsuri Izakaya - 699 S Mill Ave, Tempe

4 violations

• Water station with rusted metal water hose
• Raw fish heads kept past discard date
• Employee dropped hard boiled egg on floor, picked it up and didn’t wash hands
• Cooked corn and Bok choy not kept cold enough
