Carne asada in grocery bags, moldy soda guns found at Phoenix-area eateries
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Every week, Arizona’s Family looks up restaurants recently inspected by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with some of the highest numbers of “risk factors,” considered major health code violations by inspectors, are selected for our Dirty Dining Report. Here are the Valley restaurants that did not make the grade for Sept. 11, 2024:
Skippy’s Grille and Cantina - 23858 S Power Rd, Queen Creek
3 violations
- No certified food manager on site
- Bartender grabbed dirty dish from customer, then didn’t wash hands
- No soap or towels at hand wash sink
Twin Peaks - 2050 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe
3 violations
- Employees chewing gum behind the bar
- Employee touched hair and mid-section before scooping ice
- Black and brown organic matter on soda guns
Fiesta Mexicana Restaurant - 4949 S Alma School Rd, Chandler
3 violations
- Raw marinated chicken stored above ready to eat carnitas
- Tomatoes and Chile rellenos not kept hot enough
- Bottles of bleach sanitizer not labeled
El Bigo Taco - 420 E Southern Ave #107, Mesa
3 violations
- Pans of cooked chicken and chorizo not cooling properly
- Pans of raw meats over cooked meat
- Food staff assembling sandwiches/tacos with bare hands
Gordos Tacos - 4232 E Chandler Blvd, Phoenix
4 violations
- No soap at hand wash sink
- Raw eggs stored above veggies
- Carne asada stored in grocery bags
- Salsa not kept cold enough
