PHOENIX (AZFamily) — As the first two days of the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament come to a finish, there are two teams with Arizona campuses still alive. University of Arizona and Creighton.

“A lot of people ask me where I go for school. I tell them Creighton, and they’re like isn’t that in Nebraska?” said second-year medical student Ben Weinstock.

1,300 miles away from the main Creighton campus in Omaha is a Phoenix campus near Central Avenue and Thomas Road. The Creighton University Health Sciences Campus opened in 2021 and this year is home to hundreds of students in Phoenix studying to become healthcare professionals.

“With billboards and stuff on the light rail and stuff our reputation here in Phoenix kind of as a separate entity is definitely growing,” said Third-year medical student Quinton Anderson.

Arizona’s Family spoke with multiple students on campus on Friday and asked them if Arizona should be able to claim Creighton this postseason, along with UofA and Grand Canyon University.

“I’ll go two and a half,” said Weinstock.

“I would say Arizona definitely has three teams here in the tournament,” said Anderson.

The Blue Jays take on top overall seed Auburn in the Round of 32 on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
