Luke Bryan, Jelly Roll and Diamondbacks’ stars arrive at the Annexus Pro-Am
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — On Wednesday, celebrities and athletes arrived in style at TPC Scottsdale for the WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am!
Two country singers, Luke Bryan and Jelly Roll, were among the celebrities participating in the much-anticipated event. Both said they’ve watched the tournament for years and were excited to finally participate!
“This is my first time I’ve had the opportunity to come out here, and obviously, have seen this thing for years on TV. I always wanted to get out here and to be able to play today. And then, obviously, to have a concert tomorrow night is gonna be really fun,” Bryan said, referring to his headlining act at the Coors Light Birds Nest. “My main thing is just get out here and see the energy of this whole thing. I know it’s historically, through the years, just grown and grown, and to be a part of it, I love golf.
Jelly Roll is no stranger to the desert. The down-to-earth country star has come to the Valley of the Sun for Country Thunder and was thrilled to visit some local spots.
“Oh, it’s incredible, dude. I’ve been here the last three days. I mean, you know, I’ve been working on my health. I hiked Camelback Mountain yesterday,” he said, laughing. “It feels really good. I’m honored. I’m excited. I never expected to be so well received at a golf event.”
Some hometown heroes are also in attendance for the Pro-Am! Diamondbacks stars Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen, alongside manager Torey Lovullo, are just a few of the big-name athletes we caught up with.
“I’ve been playing a long time, but stepping into the box is always a great challenge and made you lock it in. And then at the end of the day, you know, you step up on that first tee box, you feel the same nerves, the same jitters. So, I’m looking forward to it. It should be a great really good time,” Lovullo said.
Aaron Rodgers kicked things off at 8:30 a.m. on No. 1 alongside PGA TOUR stars Scottie Scheffler and Charley Hoffman, while Cardinals football legend Larry Fitzgerald Jr. started his round at 8:50 a.m. on No. 1 with Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland.
Bryan took the green at 9:39 a.m. with Matt Fitzpatrick and Min Woo Lee. Olympic icon and Arizona State legend Michael Phelps joined Justin Thomas and Nick Dunlap at 8:40 a.m.
Comedian Rob Riggle teed off at 9:10 a.m. alongside Si Woo Kim and Nick Taylor.
