Prominent doctor arrested for allegedly assaulting woman at WM Phoenix Open
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A prominent doctor was arrested after police say he assaulted a woman outside the Bird’s Nest concert venue at the WM Phoenix Open last weekend.
Dr. Arthur De Luigi is one of the 54 people who were arrested at the WM Phoenix Open, compared to just 18 in 2023. De Luigi is facing charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
“The suspect was seen just before that pushing over signs and railings,” Scottsdale Police Officer Aaron Bolin said.
Police said De Luigi appeared drunk as surveillance video captured him rushing toward a woman and shoving her to the ground.

“For an unprovoked reason, basically turned around and headed straight for a woman walking with a crowd of other people and shoved her very hard to the point she left her feet and landed on the ground,” Officer Bolin said.
The victim’s family said she did not know De Luigi and that she’s now undergoing medical treatment for injuries she suffered in the assault.
De Luigi is listed as the chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Director of Sports Medicine for the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. His resume shows he was the head team physician for the NBA’s Washington Wizards and a physician for the Washington Nationals baseball team. De Luigi also served as a team physician for the Phoenix Rising, but did so in a volunteer capacity.
A spokesperson from the Mayo Clinic sent a statement to Arizona’s Family Investigates, which reads: “We place the highest priority on supporting the best care and safety for all who attend the WM Phoenix Open. This employee is on administrative leave pending further investigation. The alleged incident occurred outside of the hours when Mayo Clinic was providing onsite care at this event. Personnel matters are managed privately and we will not share further details. Please refer additional questions to the Scottsdale Police Department.”
Arizona’s Family also left a message for De Luigi on Thursday. He called back and said his attorney advised him not to make any statements and to let the legal process play out.
According to the complaint, De Luigi is due in Scottsdale City Court on March 7.
