Here’s how to park at the WM Phoenix Open and avoid the muddy mess
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Two days of rain have changed some of the parking plans at the WM Phoenix Open so On Your Side looks into how fans can get to the course and where to park.
Nearly a million people will file in and out of the TPC Scottsdale over the week of the Phoenix Open. It takes plenty of planning to handle parking for that many fans, but they’ve got it down to a science. The rain this week has made a mess of the grass lots close to the course. Organizers are encouraging fans to use gravel lots a little farther away, with a free shuttle service.
To get to the tournament from anywhere in the Valley, you’re probably going to be coming in on the Loop 101 Pima Freeway. The golf course is southwest of the freeway, but the general parking is mostly northeast on the other side of the 101.
If you’re coming in from the West Valley, exit at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, then go north to Bell Road and follow signs to the entrance to Lot A at Westworld of Scottsdale. If you’re driving in from the East Valley, take the Bell exit and also follow the signs to Lot A.
Parking is free there, and there will be free shuttles operating all day to get you to and from the main gate. If you want to avoid all the traffic close to the course, there’s another free parking lot at Salt River Fields, the spring home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Shuttle service will drive you about 8 miles to the golf course, but again, this option keeps you away from all traffic. The shuttle service there runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Want to leave the driving to someone else? There is a special rideshare lot called Lot R at the Bell94 Sports Complex, just off Loop 101 and Bell. You’ll be picked up and dropped off there, with a shuttle to the course.
If you’re planning on going to the Bird’s Nest, the concerts are supposed to wrap up by 10:30 each night. You’ll want to park in Lot A at Westworld or use the rideshare lot. Those shuttles run until 11 at night, so you can still get out after the show.
