SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Scottsdale police are cracking down on underage drinking at WM Phoenix Open. During the practice round, police kicked out 16 under-21 drinkers and arrested three of them.

Scottsdale detectives say they worked with the Department of Liquor to train all of the staff at WM Phoenix Open to identify underage drinking. Uniformed officers and undercover officers will be roaming TPC and keeping an eye on suspected underage drinking. “What they’re looking for is over intoxication,” said Scottsdale Police Detective Christian Bailey. “If you look young, reasonable enough for us to come and ask you, we’ll take the IDs.”

Detective Bailey said most under-21ers get alcohol wristbands using counterfeit IDs that work with the scanners at the gate. He adds not only will it come with a citation, but underage drinking will get you kicked out of TPC for the entire WM Phoenix Open.
