Trey McBride named Arizona Cardinals’ Walter Payton Man of the Year
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — When Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride isn’t pummeling his way into the end zones on Sundays, he’s going above and beyond to give back to the Valley community.
McBride was named the Cardinals’ Walter Payton Man of the Year — an award given to players who show outstanding community service off the field, along with their on-field accomplishments. In just three seasons with the Cardinals, he’s proved to be not only a reliable player on the field but also in hosting charity events and giving back to children in Arizona and his home state of Colorado.
“So many of our players go above and beyond in terms of giving back and making a positive impact on our communities,” Cardinals Owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. “Singling out one is always challenging, but the work Trey has done in his three years as a Cardinal has been exceptional. Whether it’s visiting hospitals and schools, supporting youth programs and our military or simply giving back to those less fortunate, Trey is truly worthy of this honor for the commitment he makes and the example that he sets.”

Since winning the team nomination, McBride will receive a donation of up to $55,000 to give to a charity of his choosing. He will also get a special helmet decal to wear through the end of the season.
The Cardinals’ tight end recently participated in the team’s 22nd Annual Feed the Hungry event, which provided Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of Arizonans. He also played a huge part in contributing to the growth of girls’ flag football by hosting drills and practices for Valley girls.
McBride also participated in the NFL-USO tour to Poland in March. During the four-day trip, he visited several military bases, took part in an Army combat fitness test and met with hundreds of service members, including die-hard Cardinals fans in the Arizona National Guard.

He will now be among the finalists for the league’s 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. All 32 team winners will be highlighted as finalists and recognized for their incredible work ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The league winner will be announced during the NFL Honors awards show on February 6.
