Phoenix Suns mourn loss of Oliver ‘Big O’ Miller
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Suns are remembering a fan favorite.
Oliver Miller, known as Big O because of his size, has died, according to Phoenix Suns broadcaster Eddie Johnson. Miller was 54 years old.
“Going to miss you Big O,” Johnson posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “RIP.”
Miller played four years at the University of Arkansas before the Suns drafted him 22nd overall in the 1992 draft.
The Phoenix Suns ’92-‘93 team made it to the NBA Finals. Miller, as a rookie, helped them get there in Round 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers. In the decisive Game 5, he led the Suns in overtime with nine points.
Miller stayed for another season before going to the Detroit Pistons. He was on the inaugural Toronto Raptors in the 1995-1996 season, where he had his best season with 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. Miller then went to the Dallas Mavericks, back to the Raptors, and to the Sacramento Kings, and he played for the Suns in the 1999-2000 season.
During his time in the NBA, he became the heaviest player in league history, eventually hitting 380 pounds on the scales.
A sports reporter in Arkansas says Miller died of cancer.
