Fans celebrate Devin Booker becoming Suns’ all-time leading scorer
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Amid a disappointing Phoenix Suns season and post-trade deadline second-guessing, for a few moments, all that was forgotten to honor one of the greatest players in franchise history and his record-breaking moment at Footprint Center on Friday night.
Before the Suns’ game against the Utah Jazz, the franchise and fans celebrated Devin Booker and him becoming the Suns’ all-time leader in points.
In a pre-tip ceremony, Booker was joined by family members from the late Walter Davis, whose record he passed, and late Dick Van Arsdale plus Suns great Alvan Adams and Gail Goodrich.
They gave Booker a frame with signed jerseys of the former Suns players who all held the all-time points record for the Suns at some point
“So we got to watch him get better every year, embrace the Valley, embrace the state, all the fans, how great is that?” Adams said.
Also inside the frame is a headset to represent the late Al McCoy, who was the voice of the Suns from 1972-2023.

The fans got gifts too. Everyone in attendance received a poster of Booker that featured the motto, “1 of 1.”
”How great is it for one of the greatest players ever in Suns’ history to stay. We got to watch him this whole time. Very exciting,” said Adam’s.
On Monday, Booker hit a three-point with 7:34 left in the third quarter against the Trailblazers in Portland, to get to 15,667 points in a Suns uniform, passing the record previously held by Davis for nearly three decades.
Heading into Friday night’s game, he was at 15,697.
Booker has become a sports icon in the Valley of the Suns since the Suns drafted him 13th overall in the 2015 NBA draft.
He scored his first points on Oct. 28, 2015, in the third quarter against the Dallas Mavericks.
Booker scored 30 points for the first time on Jan. 19, 2016, and posted a career-high 70 points against the Boston Celtics on March 24, 2017, becoming the youngest player to score 70 points at 20 years, 145 days old.
Booker is a four-time All-Star, All-NBA First Team in 2023, All-NBA Third Team in 2024 and won the Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend in 2018.
As for a little Suns history, the reason why Booker was given the signed jerseys of Davis, Van Arsdale, Adams and Goodrich is that all of them held the Suns’ all-time points record at some point.
Goodrich held it for a couple of seasons in the late 60s before being traded away to the Lakers.
Then Van Arsdale was No. 1 in points, before being passed by Adams, and Davis became the all-time leading scorer on April 5, 1986.
It was only a matter of time before Booker would pass the milestone, after getting to 15,000 points in December.
