Couple names newborn son after Phoenix Suns player
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A serendipitous moment became a life-long memory for a couple who decided on a name for their baby after taking maternity photos at a Phoenix Suns game.
Scott is a Suns fan, and one of his and his wife Emily’s first dates was to a game. So, when Emily became pregnant, she announced it to Scott by putting out the pregnancy test with a Suns onesie.
The couple thought it would be fun to take maternity photos holding a onesie and the ultrasound on the court of a Suns game. The Suns gave the couple a jersey that some players signed, and while they were taking the photos, they grabbed the attention of shooting guard Josh Okogie.
Okogie signed the jersey with the message: Please name him Josh :)
“The second I saw he wrote it on the onesie, and we were on the court, I was like, ‘I love it. I love this. I love that name’,” said Emily.

Once their son was born, the couple thought it would be fun for baby Josh to meet Josh Okogie.
They spread the word through their reps and security and got on the court, where the Suns player rushed over to hold and hug baby Josh. “Did I have any influence?” Okogie said.
The couple explained how Okogie inspired the name because of what he wrote on the onesie.
In the end, it was all meant to be. Scott and Emily said they googled Josh Okogie and discovered that he and their son share the same birthday: Sept. 1.
“Now we’re locked in. We’re Okogie fans for life. We’re Suns fans for life,” Emily said.
