Phoenix Mercury acquire Satou Sabally, Alyssa Thomas and 2 others in WNBA trade
Natasha Cloud, Sophie Cunningham, Rebecca Allen traded
PHOENIX (AZFamily) —It’s official. The Phoenix Mercury are revamping their team.
On Sunday, the Mercury announced they would acquire forward Satou Sabally, center Kalani Brown and guard Sevgi Uzun, all from the Dallas Wings, and Alyssa Thomas from the Connecticut Sun.
The addition of new players was part of a four-team trade with the Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever. The Mercury will lose some of their most popular players as part of the deal.
Rebecca Allen and Natasha Cloud will move to Connecticut, and Sophie Cunningham will now play alongside Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Dallas will receive the 12th pick in the WNBA Draft and the rights to Kiki Herbert Harrigan.
This will be Allen’s second stint with the Connecticut Sun, who had initially traded her to the Mercury in early 2024.
Cunningham has spent the entirety of her WNBA career with the Mercury since being drafted in 2019. Cloud only spent one season with the team, but averaged over 11 points a game and started in all 38 games.
Earlier this week, it was reported that free agent Britney Griner signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Dream.

Sabally is a two-time WNBA All-Star and was selected second overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft. She is one of the only WNBA players to average more than 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the first 90 games of her career.
Thomas is an 11-year WNBA veteran and a five-time WNBA All-Star. She recently won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thomas has finished in the top five in MVP voting in the last three seasons and averaged 10.6 points last season.
Brown is a five-year WNBA veteran and has seven double-digit scoring games off the bench in 2024. She holds career averages of 5.9 points on 56.6% shooting and 3.4 rebounds in 110 games with the Dallas Wings.
Uzun has played professionally in Turkey since 2014 and was a member of the Turkish National Team and is a two-time Turkish Super League Champion. She averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 0.9 steals in 20.5 minutes per game, ranking third amongst rookies in assists per game and sixth in steals per game.
The Mercury will kick off the 2025 WNBA regular season at the Fry’s Food Store’s Home Opener on Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. against the Seattle Storm. Click/tap here for the full Mercury schedule.
