PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix Mercury point guard Natasha Cloud was suspended one game after reaching seven technical fouls this season, the WNBA announced Monday.

Cloud will be suspended without pay for Tuesday’s home game against the Atlanta Dream. WNBA rules state that a player or coach will be “automatically suspended without pay for one game upon receiving a seventh technical foul during the regular season.”

For every two additional technical fouls that Cloud receives this season, she will be suspended for one additional game, per WNBA rules.

Cloud’s seventh technical foul came with 4:24 left in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces.

Mercury guard Diana Taurasi also received her seventh technical with 7:39 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, but the league rescinded that foul upon review. Taurasi remains at six technical fouls on the season.

This season, Phoenix has set a new WNBA record for the most technical fouls in a season, being called for 32 on the season

“We’ve got to look ourselves in the mirror and see how we can do better,” guard Sophie Cunningham said after Sunday’s game. “Moving forward...we’re grown women. Stop being so sensitive on both ends.”

Cloud is currently 4th on the team in points per game with 11.6, and she leads the team in assists at 6.8 per game and in steals at 1.5 per game. She’s also on the court more than any other Mercury player, averaging 33.9 minutes per game.

The Mercury are currently 7th place in the WNBA and looking to finish in the top 8 in order to make the playoffs.
