Uriah Tenette ready to lead Prescott basketball heading into Section 7 Tournament
PRESCOTT, AZ (AZFamily) — As hundreds of teams from across the country prepare to participate in the Section 7 Basketball Tournament, one Prescott player is looking to make an impact at State Farm Stadium when his Badgers take the court.
Uriah Tenette averaged over 30 points per game last season for Prescott, but it’s the way he leads the Badgers that makes him such a valuable player.
“Everybody who sees him, sees how special he is,” Prescott High School basketball head coach Travis Stedman said. “And the magic he brings.”
“Me and my dad talk about this all the time,” Tenette added. “I just tell him that I’m built for this. I have the most confidence in the world.”
Don’t mistake that confidence for cockiness, though. While Tenette jumps out of the gym and already has Division I offers, he’s all about the team.
“My goal is to make that state championship run for my team,” he said. “I’m going to do that for my teammates.”
“You talk to his teammates here, you talk to his club teammates, they all love playing with him,” Stedman added. “He just brings a joy when he’s playing. He brings a joy off the court too. He’s fun to be around. He’s just an awesome kid.”
Except for when it comes to his video game skills.
“He’s a horrendous 2K player,” Stedman said. “But he talks about how amazing at 2K he is. You hear the speaker and they’re trash-talking each other. And they’re just ragging on Uriah about how bad he is. But he sends it right back.”
Tenette isn’t from Prescott; in fact, he spent his entire life prior to high school in the Sacramento area of Northern California. But he’s quickly found a new home on and off the court in Badger country. For that, he’s grateful.
“I love my teammates,” he said. “They’re one of the best teammates I’ve ever had. We’re going to make a run. We’re going to do this for our town.”
