Phoenix native shares story behind glassmaking business
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Daniel Shircliff of Primitive Glass is a glassblower, father, husband, skateboarder, hotrodder, Phoenix native, and more.
He says he fell into glass blowing on accident, a total happenstance. As a kid, he wanted to be an artist because he thought it sounded good. He says he had no direction except for skateboarding, which taught him individual freedom, but a freedom that was earned through hard work and the embrace of failure.
“When you learn something on a skateboard, you fail, and get hurt, and then fall again, and again, until you get it. Glass is the same. Learning includes failure. But when the drive is there, and you know the result, it’s fun and exciting, keeps you going. And here I am (30 years later) still, failing, sometimes succeeding, but always trying!” Shircliff explained.
