MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — It’s National Robotics Week, and two East Valley eighth-graders brought home several awards from a national competition! They put their skills to the test to come out on top, and that is Something Good.

Alexis and Tara are part of the all-girl robotics team at ASU Prep Poly Spark Institute in Mesa. The two girls spend the last eight months designing and testing their creations, but decided to take their latest robot, “Johnny 20,″ to the CREATE Junior U.S. Open World Championship.

The girls took Johnny 20 through a series of obstacles at the three-day world championship competition in Iowa last week. Thanks to all their hard work and dedication, the team finished second out of 45 teams for the skills competition.

But that wasn’t all! The girls won the top Honor Award for their overall performance, technical innovation and fair play and collaboration. Congrats to Alexis and Tara on your accomplishment!
