Experience a slice of Italy at renowned central Phoenix restaurant
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Owner Richard Bock of Giuseppe’s on 28th is both a talented chef and cellist.
It was his music that first brought him to Italy. He was playing a show in New York City when a customer regaled him with tales of Florence’s culture, music and food. That customer invited Richard to visit — two weeks later, Bock was on his way.
As fate would have it, Bock bumped into a college friend walking the streets of Florence who was involved with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra. Shortly after that meeting, Bock scheduled an audition, landed the Principal Cellist role, and stayed in Italy for nine years.
When not performing, Bock studied cooking, learning from friends, their mothers and grandmothers. He couldn’t get enough!
Then, his successful music career would take a turn as he decided to follow his passion and open a little Trattoria-style Italian restaurant in Arizona. In 2002, Bock opened Giuseppe’s on 28th — his little slice of Italy in the Valley.

He took everything he loved about the food, wine, and music and filled his restaurant. At Giuseppe’s on the 28th, you’ll find rich, simple food, high-quality ingredients, scratch-made desserts, a great beer and wine list, and personal and friendly service.
Giuseppe’s has won Best of Phoenix five times, been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives twice and has been a popular little place for two decades and counting. And every now and again, if you’re lucky, Bock will entertain his customers by playing the cello.
