RA Seasonings creating all-natural, flavorful spice blends
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The owner of RA Seasonings (pronounced “raw”), Ryan Alarie, got into this business in an unusual way.
In 2016, he says he had the opportunity to donate a kidney to his cousin who was suffering from Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). The disease runs in his family, and they’ve experienced its devastating effects for generations. Alarie’s family has undergone five kidney transplants in recent years.
During Alarie’s recovery process, doctors advised him to change his diet to protect his remaining kidney. He learned that reducing sodium intake and eliminating sugar was essential for maintaining kidney health. As Alarie adapted to his lifestyle, he delved deeper into the ingredients and seasonings he was consuming and noticed a lot on the market with little to no ingredient list.
After careful research of traditional seasonings, he says he found many seasonings contain harmful chemicals and artificial ingredients. He says the lack of transparency left him unsure which brands to trust. That’s when he started experimenting with seasonings of his own that were low in sodium, sugar-free, and made from 100% herbs and spices without any fillers or preservatives.
Alarie says he and his family were blown away by the taste and knew they had something special that could help others with similar health concerns. They took their seasonings to a local farmers market, and the response was incredible. People loved the blends, and RA Seasonings quickly expanded the product line to include 19 different flavors.
Today, they sell at 10 farmers’ markets weekly and several local retail locations around Arizona. They take great pride in their products and constantly experiment with new herbs and spices to create even more flavorful and healthy blends.
