SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) —Los Olivos is a Scottsdale gem. Not only does the Mexican restaurant serve up delicious queso, tostadas, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and more, but it also has a rich history in Arizona.

The family-owned business is now in the hands of its second generation. The owner, Maria Corral, says her parents worked hard to start the restaurant in 1947. The original building started with two rooms that were built in 1928.

From then on, more rooms were added. Before becoming a restaurant, the building was used for many things: a pool hall, a meeting place, a church, and a place to celebrate life.

You cannot help but take in the architecture of Los Olivos. The patio roof slides open, and customers love dining under the stars. Maria’s uncle Jesus was a sculptor who created the big Mayan head on top of the building. It’s used as the restaurant’s logo. There is also a Mayan God with red eyes on the patio.

These figures are not in any historical books and were created only by his imagination. The lobby is also unique. It’s made with colored plastic, which lets sunlight through and gives the room a certain hue.

Tortillas at Los Olivos are hand-made, and the food is homemade daily. El Frida Chile Company provides the red chiles. Most companies providing food and goods to Los Olivos have been doing so for over 50 years!

The family is very proud to have these long relationships with companies from Arizona. They also pride themselves on their regulars, who have been bringing their families for seven decades and celebrating many life milestones over scratch-made meals at Los Olivos.
