The Salted Knot serving up variety of delicious pretzel flavors
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Maria Vassett, owner of The Salted Knot, wanted to make a pretzel one day during the COVID lockdown.
As a concert photographer for 15 years, Vassett lost her job since the music industry was suddenly nonexistent, and so was part of her income. Working as a social worker during the day, she and her husband Chad, who was working at MCC, were both working from home. One day, Vassett decided that she wanted to make a pretzel.
She made pretzels as holiday gifts for her friends and posted them on Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone would be interested in a homemade soft pretzel.
The Salted Knot sold out four days a week for a full year. Moving into a commercial kitchen for two years allowed access to farmer’s markets and larger events such as the Super Bowl, where The Salted Knot was asked to make an appearance with 4,000 pretzels at the VIP Pre-Party.
From there, this husband and wife team started looking for their own shop and bakery. On December 13, 2023, they moved into their first brick-and-mortar in Downtown Mesa, surrounded by other thriving small businesses.
On the menu, you’ll find the Butter and Salt Knot, Butter and Salt Bites, Sweet Knot with sugar-cinnamon, Italian Knot, Everything Knot, beer cheese, nacho cheese, sweet cream cheese, marinara, and stone ground mustard. You can also order a Pretzel Bratwurst, Pretzel dog, Pepperoni Pizza Knot, Nutella bombs, MANY Vegan options and more.
In the next six months, Vassett hopes to have a beer and wine license and more live entertainment, including The Salted Knot Presents: Patio Sessions, featuring local musicians.
The Salted Knot offers pre-orders for catering and weddings, wholesale and pick-up through its website. It is also available on Uber Eats and other third-party delivery services.
