Finding Forever: Teen loves cars, sees future in trades
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — There were lots of ‘wow’ moments as Gabriel had the entire Penske Racing Museum to himself.
General Manager Pat Hozza gave Gabriel a personalized tour and the history of Roger Penske and his racing empire. Gabriel,16, got to see cars, memorabilia and how racing has changed over time.
“This one is like a modern steering wheel, and this one is advanced technology,” Gabriel said as he looked at race car steering wheels.
Gabriel is friendly and said he has loved cars for as long as he can remember, working on them with his uncle. “So that got me into fixing car,” he said. “And when I got older, I looked into more cars cause I always wanted to drive a classic car.”
This teen said he is easy to get along with and tries to practice kindness. “I like to be nice to you if you are nice,” he said.
Life has not always been easy in foster care. Gabriel has been there a while. “I’ve been in DCS since I was five, six,” he lamented.
Gabriel said he has a lot of love to give to the right family. He said he thinks he would do well in a small family with no children that is active. “Things like NASCAR, baseball or go to like Jake’s Unlimited,” he said.
Gabriel said he is a hands-on kind of guy and could see himself going into the military or learning a trade when he is older. “Landscaping, construction, stuff like that,” Gabriel said. “That’s a job I would do.”
