GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — With Easter right around the corner, Gibby Parra and the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad wanted to go on a hunt. Instead of searching for dyed eggs, they searched for lucky shoppers at the Fry’s Food Store on 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Gibby had five $200 gift cards to hand out.

The first person he found was a woman with a full shopping cart entering the checkout line. She told Gibby she had a child and five dogs to feed. She added that while seeing some grocery prices go down, a trip to the store can still be pretty pricey.

“Thanks to the Valley Toyota Dealers and the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad, I’m going to give you $200,” Gibby said as he handed her the card.

He then spotted a woman shopping for breadcrumbs in the baking aisle. She told Gibby she was going to make a meal for her husband and granddaughter. When Gibby gave her a gift card, she said her granddaughter’s birthday was coming up, and maybe she was given the card as a present.

Gibby went down the next aisle and saw two different women shopping. He approached the first one, Kelly. She explained that she was shopping for ingredients to make her mom’s famous chili chicken recipe for some friends. Kelly got emotional when Gibby gave her a gift card.

“Thank you so much,” she said as she wiped away some tears. “This really helps out.”

The second woman was named Cathy. She told Gibby that one of her children was sick at home, and the other was in school and sick of the lunches there, so she was shopping for them both. “Bring him a fresh lunch, thanks to the Surprise Squad and Valley Toyota Dealers,” Gibby told her as he gave Cathy his fourth gift card.

With one gift card left, Gibby approached a woman standing in line at the Guest Services counter. She was a little skeptical and confused when he first asked her if she wanted $200 but eventually took the card with a laugh and told him she would use it to buy food and drinks.
