Sun City woman rewarded for effort to provide clothing to women, girls worldwide
Surprise Squad is sponsored by Valley Toyota Dealers.
SUN CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — Helen is a Sun City resident who volunteers with Dress A Girl Around the World. Their mission is to sew sundresses for impoverished women and girls both in the United States as well as the rest of the globe.
She often uses her own money or donations from friends to buy the supplies. Her dear friend Alicia knows how much effort Helen puts into the program, and that’s why she wanted Helen to be recognized by the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad.
“From her core, she wishes nothing but love and happiness for each and every one of us in the world,” Alicia told 3TV’s Simone Cuccurullo. She added that Helen dedicates around six hours a day to the program.
Alicia took the crew to Helen’s home. When Simone knocked on the door, Helen invited the team in and was more than happy to show off her operation.
“What we do is we put the dresses together,” Helen explained. She said they try to make each one unique and special.
When Simone asked her why she does what she does, Helen said that as a Christian, she wants to make someone else’s life just a little bit nicer. She believes that if everybody tried to do that, it would make for a glorious world.
Simone gave Helen an envelope and asked her to open it. “On behalf of our friends, our Valley Toyota Dealers, we wanted to present you with a surprise.”
Helen opened it up and got emotional when she saw the certificate inside stating that she was being awarded $5,000.
“This is amazing. Do you know how many dresses we’re going to be able to make with this? God puts us in crazy places and he puts us with people that you love and people that you can do good things for. And that’s what this is all about.”
