“Sophie was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend and new aunt,” the family wrote. “Creative, athletic and wise beyond her years, Sophie accomplished so much in the time she danced upon earth (literally - she danced as she moved!).”

Nyweide made her onscreen debut as the title character in the 2006 movie “Bella.”

In 2009, she portrayed Michelle Williams and Gael García Bernal’s onscreen daughter in the movie “Mammoth.” Among her roles was Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 film “Noah,” which starred Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson.

Born in July 2000, Nyweide’s family said the Burlington, Vermont, native spent most of her brief life in Vermont and New York City. They also said, “She seemed happiest on a movie set, becoming someone else. It was a safe place for her.”

Loved ones shared that she left them too early.

“Sophie. A life ended too soon. May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better,” the obituary read.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, Nyweide’s family urged those to donate to RAINN, a nonprofit anti-sexual assault organization, in her name.

A memorial service has yet to be determined.
