PHOENIX (AZFamily) — With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad wanted to help out some lucky shoppers.

The team went to a Fry’s Food Store at 44th Street and Thomas Road, where Gibby Parra had a fistful of gift cards to hand out to help with the grocery bills.

He first found a couple shopping in the produce department. He stopped them and asked the woman what she was thankful for. She said she had two things: first, that she was a cancer survivor, and second, her family.

“I’m with the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad,” Gibby said. “Thanks to our Valley Toyota Dealers, I’m going to give you $200. Will that help you with your shopping?” She laughed and said it certainly would.

Gibby made his way to the bakery section, where a man named Jim and a woman named Sophia were shopping. They didn’t know each other before, so Gibby had them introduce themselves.

When he asked what they were thankful for, they both said their families. He gave them both $200 gift cards. Sophia said hers would help with her Thanksgiving shopping, while Jim said he would save it and give it as a Christmas present.

Next, Gibby spotted a man pushing a cart. When he saw Gibby heading his way, the man tried to duck down an aisle, but Gibby caught up with him. He, too, said he was thankful for his family.

“Thanks to our Valley Toyota Dealers, I’m going to give you $200,” Gibby said. The man said he would use the money to help pay his bills.

With one gift card left, Gibby approached a woman named Claudia, who turned and tried to walk away, but Gibby caught up with her.

“If you give me two seconds of your time, you’re going to be thankful. Two seconds,” he said.

Claudia stopped, and like the others, she said she was thankful for her family this Thanksgiving. She added that she had her grocery list drawn up already, but she didn’t have the time to do all the necessary shopping.

Gibby couldn’t give her extra time, but he did give her the $200 gift card. She said it would help out tremendously.

“The word of the day today is family,” Gibby said with a smile.
