PHOENIX (AZFamily) — With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many people are tightening their budgets to help buy food for the holiday meal. That’s why Arizona’s Family’s Gibby Parra and the Surprise Squad crew went to the Fry’s Food Store near 32nd Street and Thomas Road to surprise unsuspecting shoppers.

Gibby first approached a woman reaching up to grab an item from a high shelf. He offered to get it for her. He then offered to give her a $200 gift card courtesy of the Valley Toyota Dealers.

“That will help a lot, a lot,” she told Gibby. The woman went on to say that she and her daughter both donate to a church that helps give out free meals to those who need it.

“You know what they always say,” Gibby told her. “When you give to someone, it always blesses you twofold, and I hope that’s going to help you out this year.

Gibby then approached a woman named Paula pushing her cart down the frozen food aisle. She had a number of coupons in her hand.

“I want to help out with those coupons. How about what we do here is I give you $200 from the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad, thanks to our Valley Toyota Dealers?”

She was so surprised by the gesture she stammered out a thank you. She went on to tell Gibby she was getting ready to go on vacation and the money would certainly help out.

Gibby then found a woman with a full cart shopping in the spice aisle. She told him she was shopping for her family and it typically costs her around $120 to get what she needs. Gibby gave her a gift card and told her not only would that pay for the groceries, but she would have an extra $80 in her pocket.

With one gift card left, Gibby found a man doing his shopping rounds. He told Gibby he’s single and goes shopping once a month for his needs. A typical trip to the store costs him around $150 to $200. He admitted he would like to buy more meats when he shops, but that’s not always in his budget.

“I want to surprise you with $200. How about we go get a big steak!”

Thank you very much,” the shopper grinned. “I appreciate you. It will help me out tremendously. The holidays are coming up. That’s awesome.”
