PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Spring break is this month, and summer is just around the corner!

How soon should you start planning your summer vacation? Arizona’s Family turned to The Points Guy for help.

“For international travel, we recommend you start booking 4 to 6 months ahead of time,” said Clint Henderson, the managing editor. “That’s when prices will be cheapest. Domestic you have a lot more wiggle room. The prime booking window is two months to three weeks before your trip.”

Henderson says interest in international travel is high right now, and the strong U.S. dollar means anywhere you go in the world will be cheaper than traveling in the states. “Everything is discounted basically,” he added. “Hotels, food, taxis. You name it.”

According to Henderson, travelers are very interested in Japan, and airlines have added flights. “A lot of airlines have actually added capacity,” he said. “They are adding flights to Japan. So what you are seeing in the market now is some of that capacity hitting, and it means slightly reduced prices for Japan.

National parks, southern California, Florida and theme parks will also be popular this summer, said Henderson.

If you want to save on airfare, he recommends using Google flights to track prices. You can also sign up for alerts and get notified when prices drop.

For those looking for a quicker trip, Arizona has 33 state parks where you can take a day trip for a spring or summer vacation. Some may take a few hours, and others are only minutes from the Valley. They offer a variety of activities like hiking, paddleboarding, fishing and climbing.

Spring break is this month, and summer is just around the corner! Parks across Arizona have just what you need for a quick trip to get out of the Valley.
