PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Last year was filled with travelers for America’s Friendliest Airport. On Monday, Phoenix Sky Harbor announced that 2024 was its busiest year yet, with 52,325,266 passengers walking through the terminals.

This is the first time the airport has surpassed the 50 million passenger mark.

In 2024, Sky Harbor added new lounges to help with the passenger experience and started having autonomous Waymo rideshare pick-up passengers at the terminal curbs. Major sporting events like the NCAA men’s Final Four and WNBA All-Star Games attracted many travelers to the Valley.

GROWING INTERNATIONAL SERVICE

In 2024, the airport welcomed Air France and Porter, with Air France starting a nonstop service from Phoenix to Paris and later increasing it’s frequency to multiple times a week.

The airport’s 24 airlines served the largest non-stop domestic and international destinations in the airport’s history and launched new services to Mexico and Canada.

Sky Harbor will also welcome back another international airline, AeroMexico, who will begin non-stop service to Mexico City in March.

But 2025 is also bringing some challenges to the booming international travel at Arizona’s largest airport. After an antitrust ruling by a German court in 2024, Condor Airlines said it would discontinue its seasonal service between Phoenix and Frankfurt, according to the website The Points Guy.

Airport officials said they are also making some modifications to help with the safety and efficiency of travelers with future development projects like a new north-south taxiway, a post-security walkway between Terminals 3 and 4, and the addition of a new West Terminal.
