Phoenix Sky Harbor awarded $84 million for new taxiway bridge
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The city of Phoenix has been awarded over $84 million to help improve infrastructure at Sky Harbor Airport, including paving the way for a new taxiway bridge to help improve airport operations.
“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I helped pass, Phoenix Sky Harbor will be able to stay ahead of growing demand and ensure more travelers can experience America’s friendliest airport while bringing business and tourism to Arizona,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).
Sen. Gallego joined Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-3rd Dist.) to announce the grant on Thursday.
“Phoenix is the fastest growing city in the country – our airport needs to be able to keep up with demand,” said Rep. Ansari. “This investment is a significant step forward for the future of Sky Harbor, a gem in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. In Congress, I’m dedicated to securing resources that improve our infrastructure, create good-paying jobs, and ensure a more sustainable future for our District. Looking forward to working alongside our Senators and City partners to do just that!”
Last year, Arizona’s Family reported about plans to build a walkway at Sky Harbor to connect passengers between terminals better.
Since Terminal 4 is the only terminal with customs, travelers with a layover in a different terminal, such as Terminal 3, must use the PHX Sky Train.
Airport officials also announced months prior longer-term plans to build a new terminal, but construction won’t start, if approved, until 2032 at the earliest.
