Gibby is back on the Surprise Squad, helping folks get some free gas
Surprise Squad is sponsored by Valley Toyota Dealers
GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Gas prices have been creeping back up again in recent weeks, and they’re only going to get higher as we head into spring.
AAA says the national average is $3.53 a gallon, up 27 cents since last month. Here locally, gas is up about 38 cents since last month, for an average of $3.79 a gallon. That’s exactly why Arizona’s Family’s Gibby Parra and Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad went to a Fry’s Fuel Center in Glendale to pick up the tab for some lucky drivers.
Gibby first approached a man who had just pulled up. When Gibby said he was going to fill up his tank, the man said it would be helpful because he was about to drive to the other side of town for a medical appointment.
Gibby then found a man named Troy driving a large truck. Troy said it typically takes $100 to fill up his tank. When Gibby asked if it would help if he paid for his gas, Troy said it would help tremendously. He explained that he’s trying to help out his daughter where he can and saving some money on the fuel expenses would trickle down and benefit his daughter as well.
Moving from pump to pump, Gibby brought smiles to the different faces of the people who had pulled into the gas station, not expecting somebody to pick up the tab. One woman was even Facetiming her mom when Gibby told her gas was on him.
“Hi, Momma. Hi, Momma,” Gibby shouted at the phone. We’re on the news, Momma. She’s going to get free gas!”
As Gibby began to wrap things up, he went back to the very first man who was on his way to a medical appointment. He handed the gentleman a gift card.
“Thanks to your Valley Toyota Dealers and the Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad, I’m going to give you $200,” he said.
The man got visibly emotional and said, “Thank you, Gibby. Thank you. Thank you, Toyota.”
