‘No greater gift’: Family credits St. Jude with teen becoming cancer-free
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Bridget was diagnosed with bone cancer at just 6 years old.
“It was Saturday, January 20th. I remember it exactly,” her mother Jamie said. “Went to Bridget’s soccer game, and that was the last time I watched her run on her own two feet.”
This 13-year-old girl has unbelievable strength.
She survived her bone cancer diagnosis with the help of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, but the journey to get there wasn’t easy.
Bridget spent 10 months in treatment at the Memphis hospital.
She received 10 weeks of chemotherapy and underwent surgeries that included the amputation of part of her right leg. Then, there were 30 more weeks of treatment.
But it worked.
Bridget was cancer-free by 7 years old.

Jamie said St. Jude allowed her to focus on Bridget, lessening the burden of any other obstacle that may come her way.
“The ability to not only to treat these children and these families, but as a parent to only have to worry about Bridget and worry about her getting better and not worrying about the bills that come along with it, there’s no greater gift,” Jamie said. “St. Jude’s ability—their doctors and nurses and teachers and physical therapists that were our cheering squad and were our family by the end of our time there—it made it hard to even come home, which people can’t even understand, like how could you not want to go home after being here for almost a year?"
She said she didn’t want to leave the bubble that made her daughter healthy.
Thanks to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Bridget is now a healthy, happy teenager who loves playing volleyball. She’s entering high school next year.
In the coming weeks as we near the kickoff of the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, Bridget and her family are just one example of where your donations go when you reserve your ticket for the giveaway.
