PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The 16-person jury has been selected for the murder conspiracy trial involving so-called Doomsday mom Lori Vallow, court officials confirmed Tuesday. The jury is made up of 13 men and three women, with four of them being alternate jurors. The alternates will be picked randomly.

With the jury chosen, opening statements are scheduled for April 7. The trial is expected to last until the middle of May at the latest. The jury will be in court Monday through Thursday, with a 90-minute lunch break.

Jury selection started on Monday with some 200 potential jurors. Many of them were ruled out by Vallow, who is serving as her own defense attorney, and prosecutors because they know about the case. Vallow is allowed to wear civilian clothes and no shackles when the jury is there but must wear a shock vest underneath.

Vallow is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, who was shot and killed by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, in July 2019 in Chandler. Cox said the two got into a fight, and Charles hit him with a baseball bat, so he shot and killed him. Cox was not arrested. He died of natural causes in December 2019.

Charles Vallow filed for divorce months before, claiming Lori Vallow threatened to murder him, and he feared for the safety of their kids, J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Prosecutors said Lori Vallow conspired with Cox to kill her husband.

After Charles’ death, Lori Vallow married Chad Daybell in November 2019 in Hawaii. In June 2020, the bodies of Tylee and J.J. were found on Chad Daybell’s Idaho property. Lori was convicted of their murders and the death of Chad Daybell’s former wife, Tammy Daybell and sentenced to life in prison. Chad Daybell was found guilty of murder for the deaths of his first wife and the two children. He’s been sentenced to death.

After the conspiracy trial, Lori Vallow has another trial, this time for the attempted shooting of her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux, in 2019 while he was driving near his house. He was not hurt. Lori Vallow was charged with conspiracy to commit murder as Cox carried out the shooting, prosecutors said. That trial is reportedly scheduled to start in June.
