PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Maricopa County grand jury has indicted a man for allegedly faking signatures for Proposition 139 during the 2024 general election.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, 53-year-old Anthony Harris was indicted on several felony and misdemeanor counts.

Prosecutors say that Harris was registered as a signature gatherer despite having past convictions, which make him ineligible for the role. Investigators began looking into dozens of signatures he submitted to place Prop 139 on the November ballot and learned that they had been forged.

Ultimately, however, the number of fraudulent signatures he gathered would not have made a difference, and Prop 139 ended up passing.

Harris now faces aggravated identity theft, fraudulent schemes and prices, circulator registration violence, and petition false signatures.

Earlier this year, a woman was indicted for similar charges, also over Proposition 139.
