PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Do you have a Real ID? If you plan to travel, you will need the new driver’s license by this Wednesday, May 7, to fly anywhere in the U.S. or even go into some federal buildings.

If you haven’t gone in for your ID, you can make an appointment at the nearest DMV and bring these items:

  • A birth certificate
  • A Social Security card
  • Two pieces of mail with your name and address, like a utility bill or bank statement

“Just because May 7th is the federal deadline, the important deadline for people to remember is two weeks before you do fly,” said Bill Lamoreaux with the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Lamoreaux said there’s no need to rush to get one now if you aren’t flying soon. It could take up to 10 to 14 days to get it in the mail after your appointment. While some viewers told Arizona’s Family it only took five days to a week, Lamoreaux urged folks to give themselves some cushion.

He said appointments are full at MVD offices across Arizona right now. Lamoreaux said certain people can apply online if your photo is less than eight years old and if ADOT already has your documents. You can see if you are qualified here.

If you don’t have a Real ID, you’ll need a passport or another acceptable form of identification from the below list in order to fly:

  • U.S. Passport.
  • U.S. Passport Card.
  • DHS Trusted Traveler Cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST).
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents.
  • Permanent Resident Card.
  • Border Crossing Card.
  • State-issued Enhanced Driver’s License.
  • An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized tribal nation/Indian tribe.
  • HSPD-12 card.
  • Foreign government-issued passport.
  • Canadian provincial driver’s license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card.
  • Transportation worker identification credential.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766).
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner credential.
  • Veteran health identification card.
