Suspect in stolen car facing felony charges for deadly crash in downtown Phoenix
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is in custody after allegedly causing a deadly crash in downtown Phoenix Wednesday night.
Isaiah Sparks, 30, is facing felony charges including manslaughter. Firefighters said that when they arrived at the scene near the 16th Street and Jefferson Street intersections, two cars were heavily damaged. One of them had three people inside, and the crews pulled them to safety.
A woman in their 60s was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died. She has since been identified as 58-year-old Maria Ramos Camacho.
Two other women, a person in their 50s and the other in their 20s, were last listed in critical condition, authorities said.
According to Phoenix police, Sparks is believed to been headed driving the wrong-way on Jefferson when he lost control and crashed into the the victims’ car. During Spark’s initial appearance, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said Sparks was going 75 mph in a 25 mph at the time of the collision.
Authorities later confirmed the Sparks had been driving was reported stolen earlier in the day.
He was being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
